Veterans Asbestos Claims

Those who suffer from mesothelioma know it is a difficult disease to beat. Oftentimes, the disease goes undetected until its later stages, making it even more difficult to overcome. At The Throneberry Law, we walk you through the steps necessary to get the highest-quality medical treatment possible. We want to help alleviate your painful suffering, while simultaneously fighting for the rightful compensation you and your family deserve.

Prior to the 1970s, asbestos use was widespread in U.S. military and navy buildings, shipyards, and bases due to its efficiency and resistance to fire. Now, decades after exposure, over 30% of mesothelioma cases in the United States can be traced back to serving in the U.S. military.

At The Throneberry Law, we offer comprehensive veteran representation to those suffering from mesothelioma, asbestosis, or another asbestos-related disease. Our principal attorney, Michael Throneberry, stood by his own father-in-law as he suffered from mesothelioma. Our firm understands what you and your family are going through, and dedicate ourselves especially to helping the veterans affected by asbestos exposure across the country.

Navy veterans mesothelioma, for example, has been traced to gaskets in valves, pumps, and other machinery, boilers, turbines, and nuclear reactors and wiring insulation.

Asbestos Exposure in the United States Coast Guard

While the Coast Guard is a small branch of the Navy, it relied on asbestos for many years to act as an insulation aboard its vessels. As a result, numerous Coast Guard veterans were exposed to asbestos and are now at risk for mesothelioma.

The United States Air Force and Asbestos Exposure

The United States Air Force utilized asbestos in constucting a number of its bases as well as aircraft and ground vehicles. There are even reports of cockpits being lined with asbestos to reduce the risk of fires. As a result, numerous Air Force veterans were exposed to asbestos.

Asbestos Exposure in the United States Army

United States Army veterans were exposed to asbestos in a number of ways. The material was placed on various tanks and other vehicles as well as in army barracks. Many Army veterans were exposed to asbestos when buildings and vehicles were destroyed.

Frequently Asked Questions

If the Military Caused My Mesothelioma Exposure, Can I Sue Them?

No. Generally, companies, government entities, and home builders are usually not included in lawsuits – only the manufacturer of asbestos-based products. However, veterans who served may qualify for benefits from the VA office.

If I Have Filed Other Claims, Can I Still File a Mesothelioma Suit?

Yes. Even if you have filed for Social Security Disability or Veteran’s Affairs benefits, your attorney can still file a mesothelioma claim against the producer/manufacturer, distributor, or supplier of asbestos products.

Can I Sue if I Forgot When I was Exposed?

Yes. Forgetting when you were exposed will not disqualify your claim. An asbestos attorney will investigate every place you worked or any place you served during the military and will find which companies produced asbestos during the period in which you worked or served. Once discovered, the attorney will go after the responsible company; if multiple companies are involved, each will be assigned a specific percentage of fault
