The suit, filed in St. Clair County Circuit Court claims Abbott Laboratories and dozens of other companies were negligent in their failure exercise reasonable care to ensure the safety of their workers. The plaintiff claims he contracted mesothelioma by breathing in asbestos fibers while working at Abbott Laboratories in Northern Illinois.

Asbestos was once everywhere in the United States of America. However, today, asbestos is recognized as a lethal carcinogen. Asbestos exposure is widely known to be the primary cause of mesothelioma, an aggressive and often fatal form of cancer that affects the lining surrounding most internal organs. Even being exposed to asbestos once is enough to cause this serious illness. While asbestos is no longer widely used in the U.S., this substance remains in old buildings, especially those built before the 1980s.
