A Pennsylvania couple recently filed an asbestos cancer lawsuit in a Philadelphia court against several companies over allegations that the defendants knowingly manufactured and sold carcinogenic talc-based products that caused the victim’s cancer diagnosis. The asbestos lawsuit names cosmetics and pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson, its talc supplier Imerys Talc USA, Rite Aid Corporation, and Walgreen Co. as defendants and seeks compensation for the victim’s injuries.
Asbestos was once an often used material in the construction industry due to its strength and heat resistance properties. As a result, construction trades involved in the renovation or repair of older buildings may be at risk of exposure to asbestos and possibly mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis. Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that attacks the lining of the organs caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos was common in hundreds of construction materials.
A New York state jury recently handed down a substantial $25 million verdict in favor of a plaintiff who claims she developed an asbestos-related cancer after decades of using talcum powder products manufactured and sold by pharmaceutical and cosmetics giant Johnson & Johnson. The award includes compensatory damages for the victim’s medical bills and lost wages as well as the pain and suffering of living with the disease as well as damages for the plaintiff’s husband.
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that occurs due to asbestos exposure. It is a fatal type of cancer that still has no known cure. Fortunately, if you or a loved one was diagnosed with mesothelioma, you can recover compensation from the negligent party that led to the asbestos exposure.
A group of military attorneys working at Guantanamo Bay prison recently filed a lawsuit to compel the Department of Defense (DoD) to take steps to protect personnel working at Camp Justice. According to the claim, the military forced the plaintiffs to live and work in areas contaminated with asbestos, a cancer causing mineral once commonly used in many construction and industrial applications. Following reports that an unusual number of former personnel deployed to the base developed mesothelioma and other deadly cancers, the U.S. Navy allegedly failed to investigate the situation and take corrective steps.
The University of Arizona’s Cancer Center hopes to become the premier mesothelioma treatment center in the Southwest. A UA thoracic surgeon performed the first successful extraplurual pneumonectomy or radical pleurectomy to treat malignant mesothelioma. Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that attacks the lining of the body’s organs including the lungs, heart and abdomen. Mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure. Currently there is no known cure for mesothelioma and the life expectancy for mesothelioma is generally six to twelve months from diagnosis.
