Ray Albright, a former Tennessee state legislator, recently revealed his mesothelioma diagnosis almost four decades after exposure to asbestos while working as a boilermaker in a Chattanooga factory to support his family. Sadly, doctors informed him that he only has a few months to live. He and his wife had planned to continue their lives together for decades to come as they raised a family, worked hard, and served the citizens of Tennessee. According to reports, the victim took a job at Combustion Engineering back in 1953 where he worked for almost two-decades using a bandsaw to cut steel tops for boilers.

Most juries spend weeks hearing evidence about how a victim developed mesothelioma and debating whether negligence played a part in the victim developing the disease. However, unlike most juries who disagree on evidence and whether negligence was involved, the Wisconsin jury in a recently decided mesothelioma case disagreed on the amount of compensation to be awarded to the victim’s family. While in the end, the jury members agreed that Pabst should pay the victim’s family more than $26 million, two of the jury members disagreed, arguing that the company should be made to pay much more.

Mesothelioma or cancer of the mesothelium is a rare disease that invades the lining of tissue surrounding vital organs. The cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order and can attack nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize or spread from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum. Mesothelioma is very hard to diagnose and treat.

A recent study examining a new therapy in an emerging cancer treatment known as T-cell therapy has shown positive results, according to an executive with the clinical-stage immunotherapy company that developed the treatment. Developed by TCR2 Therapeutics Inc., TC-210 TRuC-T cell products were given to five mesothelioma cancer patients who took part in the study. The results showed a median reduction range from the sum of the diameters of the tumors of 42%.

Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that develops after asbestos exposure. According to research, approximately 3,000 people are diagnosed with this rare disease every year in the United States. While mesothelioma occurs more often in men, it can occur in women too. After asbestos exposure, it can take decades for a person to find out they have mesothelioma. However, while the onset of mesothelioma symptoms can be slow, this rare disease can be aggressive. It is advisable for mesothelioma victims and their families to act fast after a mesothelioma diagnosis.

A California-based cosmetics company recently initiated a recall of four of its makeup products over asbestos-contamination concerns. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), consumers are advised to immediately cease using four products produced by Beauty Plus Global Inc after testing by the FDA revealed those items showed asbestos contamination.
