TRUST FUND GUIDE
A plain-English guide to the G-I Holdings Inc. Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust, which covers GAF and Ruberoid asbestos products, and what each disease level is worth.
GAF Corporation and its Ruberoid line made roofing, insulation cement, and flooring products, and many of them contained asbestos. If a family member got sick after working with these materials or using them in a home, the G-I Holdings trust may owe money. This guide explains how the trust works and what claims are worth. You can also read about GAF Corporation and the other asbestos companies we handle.
We are Throneberry Law Group, a nationwide mesothelioma and asbestos firm. We help workers, do-it-yourself remodelers, and families file with the G-I Holdings trust and every other trust they qualify for. Our founding attorney, Michael Throneberry, took on this work after his father-in-law died of mesothelioma, and we give each client direct, personal attention.
CURRENT TRUST STATUS
BACKGROUND
The G-I Holdings Inc. Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust pays people who got sick from asbestos products made by GAF Corporation and its predecessors, including the Ruberoid Company. GAF made roofing, insulation, and flooring products for homes, commercial buildings, and industrial sites. Many contained asbestos, and breathing in the fibers can cause mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer, and asbestosis years later.
GAF’s parent, G-I Holdings, spent years in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The G-I Holdings Inc. Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust was created in 2009 out of the confirmed G-I Holdings Chapter 11 plan, and it began accepting claims on October 4, 2010. The trust pays valid claims under its Amended Trust Distribution Procedures (TDP).
The trust handles claims for people exposed to GAF and Ruberoid products across roofing work, construction, insulation, flooring, and industrial job sites.
PRODUCTS & COMPANIES COVERED
The trust covers a range of GAF and Ruberoid asbestos products. These are the product lines most often tied to G-I Holdings claims.
The asbestos years for these products run from the 1930s into the 1970s and, for floor tile, into the early 1980s. A lawyer can match your work or home-renovation history to the right products.
INDUSTRIES, TRADES & OCCUPATIONS
GAF products reached roofers, insulators, flooring installers, carpenters, and do-it-yourself remodelers, as well as industrial workers who handled Calsilite pipe and block insulation. Much of this exposure happened across the construction trades.
Because GAF made consumer roofing and flooring products, some people were exposed at home. That still counts, and it still can support a claim. The trust also keeps an approved site list for certain exposure claims.
HOW IT WORKS
The trust sets a scheduled value for each disease level in its TDP, then pays a share of that value called the payment percentage.
The trust set an Initial Payment Percentage of 8.6 percent, later adjusted to 7.4 percent, then reduced again. The most recent trust notice set the payment percentage at 5 percent for claims first eligible for payment after November 22, 2022. The percentage keeps money in the fund for future claimants.
A quick example. At the $155,000 mesothelioma scheduled value, the current 5 percent payment percentage pays about $7,750.
FILING OPTIONS
The trust offers a faster fixed-value track and a full-review track.
Expedited Review
The trust checks your records against the presumptive medical and exposure criteria and pays the scheduled value for your disease level, times the payment percentage. It is faster and predictable.
Individual Review
The trust reviews your case in detail. The value can be higher than the scheduled value, up to a maximum, or lower. It takes longer but offers more upside for strong cases.
THE NUMBERS
These are the scheduled, average, and maximum values in the trust’s TDP. The trust pays the current payment percentage of the settled value.

GETTING STARTED
A strong trust claim takes preparation. Here is the path most clients walk with our firm.
1. Gather medical records. You need clear proof of diagnosis, usually a pathology report and a doctor’s statement linking the illness to asbestos.
2. Document your work history. Build a record of every job site, employer, and product you were around. Coworker statements can fill in gaps.
3. Match to covered products. Tie your exposure back to G-I Holdings products. That link decides whether you qualify and what the claim is worth.
4. Choose your review track. Your attorney helps decide. Well-documented, serious cases often do better under full review; simpler cases often do better on the fast track.
5. File and track. Submit the claim and supporting documents, then follow it through review and payment.
