TRUST PAYMENT REFERENCE
A payment reference for the Raytech Corporation Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust, which pays claims for asbestos exposure to products and operations for which Raytech Corporation, the successor to Raymark Industries, has legal responsibility. Every figure below was checked against the trust's own filing instructions, trust agreement, notices, approved site list, presumptive occupation list, and FAQ on October 18, 2026.
CURRENT TRUST STATUS
The Raytech asbestos trust pays 1.35% of a claim's scheduled value. The trust calls it the Pro-rata Percentage. The trustees raised the rate from 0.92% to 1.35% effective November 14, 2024, with the consent of the Trust Advisory Committee and the Legal Representative. A mesothelioma claim carries a $179,760 scheduled value after the trust's July 31, 2024 inflation adjustment, so it pays about $2,427. The trust pays four disease categories only (mesothelioma, lung cancer, other cancer, and severely disabling asbestosis); the two non-malignant categories have been suspended since the trust opened. Every claim filed on or after June 1, 2023 carries a $75 Claim Processing Fee, refunded when the claim is paid, and a claim whose fee is not received within 60 days is rejected with no tolling of the statute of limitations.
Throneberry Law Group files Raytech claims for brake and clutch mechanics, friction product plant workers, shipyard workers, railroad workers, and the power plant and refinery trades on the trust's approved site list, and their families, across the country. This page is part of our asbestos trust funds guide, which covers every trust we file against. Our Raybestos and Raymark company page covers the company's history.
PAYMENT REFERENCE
The table below is the short answer. The sections that follow explain each line.
| Current payment percentage | 1.35% (the trust's "Pro-rata Percentage") of the scheduled value for Disease Categories I through IV. Categories V (Other Asbestosis) and VI (Pleural Disease) are suspended and not accepted. |
|---|---|
| In effect since | November 14, 2024 (Notice of Pro-rata Percentage Increase dated November 19, 2024, after a reconsideration under TDP Section 4.2 with the consent of the TAC and the Legal Representative). The trust's FAQ confirms 1.35% as the current rate. |
| Prior rates | 2.0% when the trust opened in January 2010 (Claim Filing Instructions dated January 15, 2010); cut to 0.84% effective November 29, 2011 (letter dated December 19, 2011); raised to 0.92% effective February 1, 2018 (letter dated January 31, 2018); raised to 1.35% effective November 14, 2024. |
| Review cycle | The trustees reconsider the Pro-rata Percentage periodically under Section 4.2 of the TDP, based on current estimates of present and future claims, the value and liquidity of trust assets, and expenses, and may change it with the consent of the TAC and the Legal Representative. |
| Inflation adjustment | Yes. Under Section 5.2(b) of the TDP the trustees adjust the scheduled values for increases in the Consumer Price Index. Adjustments took effect in 2015, 2018, April 30, 2021, and July 31, 2024, and apply to all outstanding and future offers (letter dated July 31, 2024). |
| Mesothelioma scheduled value | $179,760 (2024 adjusted value). The TDP's 2010 initial value was $125,000. The Raytech TDP has no Individual Review track with average and maximum values; valid claims are paid the scheduled value times the Pro-rata Percentage. |
| Mesothelioma payout at the current rate | About $2,427 ($179,760 x 1.35%). |
| Review options | Claims are classified into a Disease Category and paid at the scheduled value times the Pro-rata Percentage. A claimant who disputes the trust's classification, or its refusal to classify the claim in Categories I through IV, may dispute it under TDP Section 5.2(b)(4) and the trust's ADR procedures. |
| Extraordinary Claims | The trust's FAQ states that a claimant who can show the injury was at least 75% the result of exposure to a product for which Raytech is responsible may have the claim classified as an Extraordinary PI Trust Claim, and that the trust may require authorizations to obtain the claimant's filings with other asbestos trusts. The trust's posted materials do not state the Extraordinary Claim value, so this page does not give one. |
| Exposure requirement | Meaningful and credible exposure to Raytech Product/Operations before December 31, 1982: asbestos or asbestos products manufactured, produced, distributed, sold, fabricated, installed, released, maintained, repaired, replaced, removed, or handled by Raytech or an entity it is responsible for (Claim Filing Instructions; FAQ). Mesothelioma needs that exposure plus a ten-year latency. Lung cancer needs six months of exposure before December 31, 1982 plus evidence of an underlying asbestos-related disease. Other cancer and severely disabling asbestosis need six months of exposure plus at least five years of Significant Occupational Exposure. Proof may be invoices, construction or similar records, or an affidavit of the claimant, a co-worker, or (for a deceased claimant) a family member. |
| Presumptive industries, occupations, and sites | The trust's FAQ names two presumed industries: automotive and mechanical friction, and shipyard, ship construction, and ship repair. Its Presumptive Occupation List accepts a long list of occupations (boiler, furnace, engine room, insulation, foundry, and maintenance trades among them) without a job description, though product identification may still be needed depending on the industry. Its Approved Job Site List names 140 employer sites where it has confirmed its products, with exposure date ranges, including power plants, refineries, railroads, and chemical plants in Missouri (9 sites, among them the Hawthorne, Labadie, Meramec, and Lake Road power plants, Monsanto in St. Louis, and the Standard Oil refinery in Sugar Creek), Kansas (17 sites, including Kansas Power & Light plants, the El Dorado and Coffeyville refineries, and the Santa Fe Railroad shops), and Illinois (the Burlington Northern, Chicago Northwestern, and Illinois Central railroads). |
| Filing deadline | Bar Dates: a claim first diagnosed before October 1, 2006 had to be filed within one year of the January 15, 2010 Initial Claims Filing Date, that is, by January 15, 2011. A claim first diagnosed after October 1, 2006 must be filed by January 15, 2011 or within three years of the diagnosis date, whichever is later. A claimant who misses the Bar Date may ask the trustees for relief on a showing of good cause. The trust keeps all statute of limitations defenses for claims that were time-barred on the March 10, 1989 Petition Date (Claim Filing Instructions; Bar Date notice dated September 30, 2010). |
| Fees and withdrawal rules | $75 Claim Processing Fee on every claim filed on or after June 1, 2023, refunded in full when the claim is paid, forfeited if the claim is denied and not cured, withdrawn, or withdrawn by the trust. If the fee is not received within 60 days of the trust's receipt of the claim, the claim is rejected and the statute of limitations is not treated as tolled (letter dated May 1, 2023). Since November 29, 2011 an intake deficiency must be answered within 90 days and a review deficiency within 180 days or the claim is rejected with prejudice to refiling, and a release must be returned within six months of the offer or the claim is deemed withdrawn, with one six-month extension for good cause (TDP Section 6.3 as amended; FAQ). |
| Claims processor | Claims Processing Facility, Inc. (CPF), East West Corporate Center, 1771 West Diehl Road, Suite 220, Naperville, Illinois 60563, through the CPF e-File system (Electronic Filer Agreement required). Claim data already on file with the Eagle-Picher or Keene trusts at CPF can be reused for a Raytech filing. |
| Trust created | Under the Chapter 11 Trustee's Amended Plan of Reorganization filed February 16, 2006 in the consolidated bankruptcy cases of Raymark Industries, Inc., Raymark Corporation, and Universal Friction Composites, Inc., Case No. 89-00293, United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut. The Petition Date was March 10, 1989. The Second Amended and Restated Trust Agreement is dated July 5, 2006, and the trust operates under the Third Amended and Restated Trust Distribution Procedures. The trust began accepting claims January 15, 2010 with about $52 million available for claims and a projection of about 41,000 malignancy claims over its life. |
| Last checked | October 18, 2026, against cpf-inc.com (home page, Raytech news items, Raytech document library, and FAQ), the Raytech Claim Filing Instructions dated January 15, 2010, the Second Amended and Restated Trust Agreement (conformed copy May 8, 2008), the Notice of Pro-rata Percentage Increase dated November 19, 2024, the Adjusted Scheduled Values letter dated July 31, 2024, the Claim Processing Fee letter dated May 1, 2023, the payment percentage letters dated December 19, 2011 and January 31, 2018, the Bar Date notice dated September 30, 2010, the Approved Job Site List, and the Presumptive Occupation List. |
SCHEDULE OF DISEASES
The Raytech TDP uses six disease categories, numbered from mesothelioma down, and pays only the first four. Categories V (Other Asbestosis) and VI (Pleural Disease) are suspended until the trustees find the trust has enough additional assets to pay them, which has not happened since the trust opened in 2010. The values below are the 2024 adjusted values from the trust's July 31, 2024 letter; the Raytech TDP has no Individual Review averages or maximums.
| Category | Disease | 2010 Value | 2024 Adjusted Value | Payout at 1.35% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | Malignant Mesothelioma | $125,000 | $179,760 | About $2,427 |
| II | Lung Cancer | $41,200 | $59,249 | About $800 |
| III | Other Cancer | $21,500 | $30,918 | About $417 |
| IV | Severely Disabling Asbestosis | $41,200 | $59,249 | About $800 |
| V | Other Asbestosis | Suspended; not accepted | ||
| VI | Pleural Disease | Suspended; not accepted | ||
The payout column is the 2024 adjusted value times 1.35%, rounded. The trust's intermediate adjusted values were $135,373 (2015), $144,552 (2018), and $152,799 (2021) for mesothelioma. Raytech pays a little over a penny on the dollar, which is why the $75 fee and the 60-day fee deadline matter: a lung cancer claim's $800 payment is only about ten times the fee that must arrive first.
FILING REQUIREMENTS
The trust checks the disease, the exposure, the timing, and the fee. Since June 1, 2023 the fee comes first: the trust will not process a claim until the $75 Claim Processing Fee is paid, and a claim whose fee does not arrive within 60 days is rejected without tolling.
The claimant must show meaningful and credible exposure, before December 31, 1982, to asbestos or asbestos products manufactured, produced, distributed, sold, fabricated, installed, released, maintained, repaired, replaced, removed, or handled by Raytech or an entity Raytech is responsible for (Claim Filing Instructions; FAQ). The trust accepts invoices, construction or similar records, or an affidavit of the injured person, a co-worker, or a family member when the claimant has died. Three trust lists shorten the proof. The FAQ names automotive and mechanical friction work and shipyard, ship construction, and ship repair as presumed industries. The Presumptive Occupation List accepts a long list of trades without a job description, from abatement workers and boilermakers through engine room workers, furnace and kiln workers, insulators, laggers, and maintenance mechanics, though product identification may still be needed depending on the industry. The Approved Job Site List names 140 employer sites, with exposure date ranges, where the trust has confirmed its products were present. Mesothelioma needs exposure plus a ten-year latency between first asbestos exposure and diagnosis. Lung cancer needs six months of Raytech exposure before December 31, 1982, evidence of an underlying asbestos-related disease, and medical documentation that asbestos contributed to the cancer. Other cancer (larynx, pharynx, stomach, esophagus, colon, or rectum) and severely disabling asbestosis also need at least five years of Significant Occupational Exposure, which means a cumulative five years in an industry and occupation that handled raw asbestos, fabricated asbestos products, worked with asbestos products, or worked regularly alongside those who did. The FAQ says bystander (non-occupational) exposure claims may be filed; the trust's posted materials do not set out a separate track for them.
A mesothelioma claim needs a physical examination by a qualified physician with a diagnosis of diffuse malignant mesothelioma of the pleura or peritoneum, or a reasonable equivalent clinical diagnosis where there is no tissue, or a diagnosis by a board-certified pathologist. Lung cancer and other cancer need the diagnosis plus an x-ray reading of 1/0 or higher on the ILO scale, bilateral pleural plaques or thickening, or (without an ILO reading) a chest x-ray showing bilateral interstitial markings, plaques, or thickening consistent with asbestos disease. Severely disabling asbestosis needs a B-read of 2/1 or higher or pathology, plus TLC under 65% or FVC under 65% with an FEV1/FVC ratio over 65%, and a physical examination for a living claimant. The National Cancer Institute explains what mesothelioma is and how it is diagnosed.
The trust uses Bar Dates rather than the three-years-after-the-Initial-Claims-Filing-Date rule most trusts use. A claim first diagnosed after October 1, 2006 must be filed by January 15, 2011 or within three years of the diagnosis date, whichever is later, so for a diagnosis today the deadline is three years from the diagnosis date. A claim first diagnosed before October 1, 2006 had to be filed by January 15, 2011. A claimant who misses the Bar Date may ask the trustees for relief for good cause, in their sole discretion. The trust keeps every statute of limitations defense for claims that were already time-barred on March 10, 1989. After filing, the $75 fee must arrive within 60 days, an intake deficiency must be answered within 90 days, a review deficiency within 180 days, and a release must be returned within six months of the offer or the claim is deemed withdrawn, with one six-month extension on a showing of good cause.
Raytech has no Individual Review track. The trust classifies the claim into a Disease Category and offers the scheduled value times the Pro-rata Percentage, about $2,427 for mesothelioma at the 2024 value. A claimant who disputes the classification, or the trust's refusal to classify the claim in Categories I through IV, may contest it under TDP Section 5.2(b)(4) and the trust's ADR procedures. A claimant whose injury was at least 75% the result of Raytech product may seek Extraordinary PI Trust Claim classification; the trust may require authorizations to obtain the claimant's other trust filings. A claimant paid for a non-malignant disease may file a new claim for a later-diagnosed cancer, less the earlier payment.
RATE HISTORY
The trust opened on January 15, 2010 with a 2.0% Pro-rata Percentage, about $52 million available for claims, and a projection of roughly 41,000 malignancy and 130,000 non-malignancy claims over its life, which is why it paid only the four malignancy and severe asbestosis categories from the start (Claim Filing Instructions, January 15, 2010). After an actuarial study, the trustees cut the rate to 0.84% effective November 29, 2011 (letter dated December 19, 2011) and at the same time amended Section 6.3 of the TDP to add the 90-day and 180-day deficiency deadlines and the six-month release deadline.
After another actuarial study the trustees raised the rate to 0.92% effective February 1, 2018 (letter dated January 31, 2018). On June 1, 2023 the trust added the $75 Claim Processing Fee. On July 31, 2024 the trustees adjusted the scheduled values for inflation, the fourth adjustment since 2010, and on November 14, 2024 raised the Pro-rata Percentage to 1.35% after a Section 4.2 reconsideration with the consent of the TAC and the Legal Representative (notice dated November 19, 2024). The trust posts no annual report on cpf-inc.com, so this page carries no claims-paid totals.
PRODUCTS AND WORK SITES
The trust's filing instructions define covered exposure by company, as exposure to Raytech Product/Operations, and its FAQ names the two industries it presumes: automotive and mechanical friction (brakes, clutches, and friction materials) and shipyard, ship construction, and ship repair. The trust was created in the bankruptcy of Raymark Industries, Raymark Corporation, and Universal Friction Composites, and its approved site list reaches well beyond those two industries into power plants, refineries, railroads, and chemical plants. Proof for the trust comes from three directions.
The firm sees Raytech exposure among brake and clutch mechanics, friction plant workers, railroad shop workers, and the power plant and refinery trades in Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois, and the same work history usually supports claims against the larger trusts for the same sites, including Babcock & Wilcox, Garlock, and Federal-Mogul, which is where the recovery comes from. Our Raybestos and Raymark company page covers the company's history, and our page on power plant asbestos exposure covers the sites that dominate the trust's approved list.
QUESTIONS
As of October 18, 2026, the Raytech Corporation Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust pays 1.35% of a claim's scheduled value, which the trust calls the Pro-rata Percentage. The trustees raised the rate from 0.92% to 1.35% effective November 14, 2024, with the consent of the Trust Advisory Committee and the Legal Representative. The rate was 2.0% when the trust opened in 2010, 0.84% from November 29, 2011, and 0.92% from February 1, 2018.
The mesothelioma scheduled value is $179,760 after the trust's July 31, 2024 inflation adjustment, so a valid claim pays about $2,427 at 1.35%. Lung cancer and severely disabling asbestosis pay about $800 and other cancer about $417. The trust has no Individual Review track, and it does not accept the two non-malignant categories. A claimant whose injury was at least 75% Raytech product may seek Extraordinary Claim classification.
Usually not for a recent diagnosis. A claim first diagnosed after October 1, 2006 may be filed within three years of the diagnosis date. Claims diagnosed before October 1, 2006 had to be filed by January 15, 2011, and the trustees may grant relief for good cause. Every claim filed since June 1, 2023 needs a $75 fee within 60 days of filing, or the claim is rejected and the statute of limitations is not tolled.
WHY THRONEBERRY LAW GROUP
Raytech pays about a penny and a third on the dollar and charges $75 to find out. A firm that files it without the fee, or lets the 90-day intake deficiency clock run, loses the claim and the fee. We file Raytech because a friction mechanic's, railroad worker's, or power plant worker's history usually supports several trusts at the same time, because the approved site and presumptive occupation lists cut the proof to employment records and a diagnosis for many of our Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois clients, and because the fee comes back when the claim pays. We send the fee with the claim, calendar the deficiency and release deadlines, and do not let a Raytech filing delay the trusts that matter. Our overview of mesothelioma compensation explains how trust payments fit with lawsuits and other recoveries, and attorney Michael Throneberry, who has handled asbestos cases for more than two decades, reviews every trust claim before it goes out.

If you or a family member worked with Raymark or Raytech brakes, clutches, or friction products before 1983, or worked at one of the power plants, refineries, railroads, or shipyards on the trust's approved site list, the Raytech asbestos trust may owe a payment, and the same work history often supports much larger trust claims and lawsuits.
