Year: 2023

Happy Veteran’s Day! A big thank you to all the veterans who have so bravely served our country. You are greatly appreciated! More than 30% of Americans diagnosed with mesothelioma served at one time in the U.S. Military.  Now, 20 or 30 years later, all too many of those U.S. Military Veterans are battling asbestos cancer.  Our firm is proud to help those who bravely served our country by providing nationwide representation to former military veterans who show symptoms of asbestos disease.  Again, thank you for your service to our country.
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer caused by inhaled asbestos fibers. It is estimated that around 3,000 new mesothelioma cases are diagnosed every year. Usually, mesothelioma develops from the thin layer of tissue that covers many of the internal organs. Unfortunately, mesothelioma is an aggressive and fatal cancer. Because of mesothelioma’s aggressive and deadly nature, early detection and treatment are quite important. However, before beginning treatment after a mesothelioma diagnosis, getting a second opinion is important.
A mesothelioma victim or their family can file a personal injury claim and recover compensation from the party that is to blame for the asbestos exposure.  It is not a legal requirement to retain an attorney during a mesothelioma case, but it is advisable to do so. Mesothelioma cases can be difficult to prove and usually involve large companies with unlimited resources. It is best not to risk trying to prove a mesothelioma case or going against these large companies without the help of an attorney. However, hiring just any attorney is not enough.
Dealing with mesothelioma can be extremely difficult. Sadly, many mesothelioma patients suffer from stress. Unfortunately, stress can negatively affect a person’s physical and mental well-being. Among other things, stress can: Cause mental health issues Increase the risk of stroke Increase the risk of heart attack Suppress the immune system When it comes to cancer, researchers have found that stress can be associated with increased fatigue during chemotherapy. However, according to research, active stress management techniques can help cancer patients.
Maryland lawmakers recently convened hearings to delve into why potentially tens of thousands of asbestos cancer victims have yet to have their day in court years after developing serious, life-threatening conditions and filing suit to recover much needed compensation. Those meetings primarily focused on courts in Baltimore city, the epicenter of the state’s mesothelioma crisis, where thousands of hardworking men and women developed the rare and deadly lung cancer working in the city’s shipping industry.
Mechanics and Asbestos Brakes Asbestos was valuable for automotive brakes due to its heat resistance and strength with a concentration of estimated to be 30 to 80%. Mechanics working on vehicles (both in the past and in the present) that use brake pads containing asbestos fibers are at risk for asbestos exposure. Examples of brakes containing asbestos include but are not limited to: Allied Signal Friction King Disc Brake Pads (1979-1987); Bendix Disc Brake Pads (1963-1988); and Ferodo Brake Pads (1923-1998). Asbestos linings are also still in use in high-end imports like the Land Rover.
